How do I make money and to travel

How do I make money and to travel
How do I make money and to travel -

Foreign money from around the world Many people ask me how I make money to make my trips. New readers, old readers - does not matter. Gotta have a trust fund? (RN) Am I rich? (RN) won the lottery? (I wish!)

Before I went abroad, I saved abroad $ 20,000 USD for my time. I have the money long ago. For the last 2.5 years, I have nothing but the money that I lived to earn online.

In recent weeks, a number of people have me empty my email and asked point if they could all my books for free because they do not have the money, not to pay for them. I give away other information for free, so I can not give it to just those? Another person shouted at me because, as some may have noticed from you, I have asked a few more ads on my site.

So, with all these issues and concerns, I would like a little bit to take the time to do a short PSA to this website.

I know that I give a lot of free travel information. From the blog, the travel guides, at the tips section, you can pretty much almost everything for free here. I do not think there are a lot of ads on my site are. I turn down 0% of the ad offers I get, because I only advertise products I use myself and actually vouch for. But these few ads keep all other information for free and with all the previous questions, I think now is a good time to address this issue:

Why have ads at all?
Many years ago, I quit my job, traveling the world. Before the money from this job years running. The displays and books I write reward for all my life. It's how I earn a living, pay rent, eat, go to the movies, and afford the journey, the stories that you created to read on this website.

Well, you're just a sellout then. Nothing is out of the heart, if you do it just to make money.
I could get a job to do many other things, but I am doing this because I love to travel and I love to convince other people to travel and to prove that one it without spending a lot of money to do. To say that everything is commercialized it bad to say that everything people do is scary. Just like you read magazines with ads, you will find blogs with advertising. If you think I to make this as a kind of dishonest way money, I think you've found reading the wrong website. I love what I do, and the ads you help me to do it, as only the ads do not help National Geographic runs.

you not only get all your trip for free anyway?
do Actually, I do not. I could, I would get free stuff in the past. Sometimes I can take a free trip or a free hostel bed but I pay for 99.9% of my trips. I do not really press trips. I find them too narrow. I like to do the flexibility, what I want. Most of the time, when I get something for free, it's just a city tourist map for attractions. If I take a free trip to do, it is a solo journey, so I can keep the flexibility that I love. (My last trip to Norway was paid by the tourist board, but I went alone and made my own schedule.) But the free trips per year add about three weeks. Flights (which I spend a lot per year), food, accommodation, drinks, etc., for the other 49 weeks of out-of-pocket costs.

Why put more ads? You probably make a lot of money already.
I wish! I make a good life, but I would not say it is "a lot" to pay especially after the cost-site and travel, a wizard, and to help recently an editor, do better to write. I have more widgets and display of up to try better to cover it all these costs.

So everything like to make money?
No, as I said, I only put ads for companies that I use and love. Every ad that you see on this website is for a company who I used or a lot of respect for. I recommend businesses only I would use me. I know from emails, people use many of the companies I recommend, I would like to be able to bail on this website for any business. I do not think money if I put ads. I think " If the company is useful for my readers?" I turn more ads than I accept. If it were just about money, I would be much more to do.

I your blog simple as reading. If I need more information, I'll Google for free is easy.
Great. I'm glad you read this blog, and I hope I can help you travel better. That is the main reason why I run this site. But remember:

For people like me who decided to live blog, it's really hard to make money, and it requires a lot of work. I spend more time to put bread on my table trying as I do anything else, and it often takes away really, just go and enjoy where I am. I'm the guy in the hostel area do work while everyone else is out going to the beach. But the money keeps me traveling, and traveling keeps visit this site, you receive free ... holds. So, if you think "all information should be free" and get in a huff about me Viewing or downloading a book set, you make it harder for me (and others like me), in order to provide all the free content available, that you enjoy and find useful. Because if nobody books or used purchases the company, is to invest no return is, stop the money, and then one day I find myself broke and again to get a cabin job. And then you suddenly find that it no longer "free" information.

I want to offer as much information as possible for free. Just when I wanted to do something for a paycheck, I would find something that much less work. I wish I had a trust fund that my calculations could pay and that I never had to worry about money and advertising. But I do not, and bills must have been paid and are airline tickets to be purchased to do to keep that stuff to me that you brought to this site in the first place.

The advertising does. I would love it if my books financed this entire site, but they do not. help the ads to make up the difference, which is why they are going to stay.

If you help this site, support, keep it running, and keep ads away from him, at the head of my resource page and book your trips using the links on the page. They save money to support good companies, and the servers keep running here. Win-win-win. Do not buy anything you feel comfortable with it not, and if you have any questions about one of these companies, you can e-mail me!

The personal significance of travel

The personal significance of travel
The personal significance of travel -

Travel means something different to each person in the world. People may have to travel for similar reasons, but they are always a little different from the next traveler. For me, traveling is about freedom. The point is able to do anything at any time of day, any day of the week. I wanted the freedom that I felt I could not go to an office to work. But I wondered what other people motivated to get their work, exit, and travel around the world

So I asked

And here is what the people said ..

As the city of Berlin to conquer

As the city of Berlin to conquer
As the city of Berlin to conquer -

Berlin is a huge city. I knew it was big, but until I decided to explore it on foot, I never knew how big. I came here for five days with the idea that I would see all the major attractions some of the not-so-major sights and get a feel for the city. I do not have the chance much of Germany capital, to see the first time that I was here, and I had hoped that this visit would be to correct that.

But despite my intentions, I achieved little in five days. Berlin is simply too big and spread. My original purpose was to write a post, which in five days to do in Berlin. But after realizing how hard it was to get around and see the sights that post was to write impossible. This city is simply too overwhelming

So instead, here are some ways you can avoid my sightseeing errors, maximize the time in Berlin have, and to make the most of your visit.

General Tips

Rent a Bike

Biking in Berlin, Germany is easy and cost effective Walking around Berlin takes (and waste) a lot of time. However, the city is a great place for a bike ride. There are separate lanes for cyclists, so it's easy, without the fear of riding to be hit by a car. Most residents bike around the city, and while I was a bit nervous when Uncornered market first proposed, at the end of the day I was really happy to Berlin are biking. It provided a quick and easy way to get around, and bicycles costs to rent

do it in sections around nine euros per day -. I found out how huge Berlin is, if I tried, between the sights on foot and then spent most of my days only from point A to point B get (which is not bad, but it was not planned for). Break up the city in different areas, and then work from area to area. It is the city much easier to conquer

Take a free hike -. New Europe operates a long and informative tour in part, begins at the Brandenburg Gate and takes 3.5 hours. It takes you through the center of the city, showing you all the highlights, are you a story, and will help you get oriented.

Essen cheap

Good Turkish food in the city of Berlin in Germany
to a city to assess how cheap it is through food, and the food in Berlin is incredibly cheap. And not just the street food (you can Currywurst can be found everywhere!), Kebabs and quick pizza, either - the restaurants here are a bargain. You can find a lot of meals for less than 5 €. I recommend eating in Mustafa. It is known for the best kebab in Berlin. The exaggerations are true - the lemon, mint, fresh vegetables! Mouth watering.

My Must-See / Must-Do List

East Side Gallery

The East Side Gallery in the city of Berlin, Germany
a huge section of the Berlin wall left standing and artists were invited to paint a part of it, represent the hope and violence. Now, the East Side Gallery is one of the best outdoor art exhibitions in Berlin. I was really moved by some of the pictures.

Jewish History Museum

Jews have faced a long and hard way in Germany. She was an important part of the population, even though they were discriminated against highly. The museum shows the arrival of Jews and their contributions in the whole of German history and the hardships they face. It does not go into much depth about the Holocaust, because there is a wonderful separate museum for it. But like all museums in Germany, which is huge and will need a few hours to explore properly.

The Holocaust Memorial

A photo of the Shoah Museum in Berlin, Germany
Located in the middle near the Reichstag, chronicles the Holocaust Museum "the Nazis (officially called" the memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe ") treatment and extermination of the Jews. the monument consists of concrete slabs which a sense of confusion and agitation to create, as you wander through them. Below is a museum, which follows different families in the Holocaust. It creates a very personal and moving way about this terrible blight on human history to learn.

Treptow Park

A beautiful view of the Trep Tower Park in Berlin, Germany
in the eastern part is the Berlin, this park near an old abandoned amusement park (which can also be visited). it is a popular place to bike around, and there are a number of beer gardens and a small island near where they a have weekend flea market. Additionally, you can rent boats and canoes and cruise the adjacent river.

Templehof Park

in the southern part of the city, this park is actually used the site of the old airport during the Berlin Airlift after the Second World War, when the Soviets blockade Berlin tries. Well, there is a large park with a lot of plaques and information on the old airport. It is not the best park in Berlin, but it's cool to be able to go to a piece of history.

German History Museum

Germany a very long history, and this museum has to start a detailed report on the country, from the Roman period time ~~ POS = HEADCOMP. It is organized by time periods and has many artifacts. It is huge, but so, when you visit, make sure that you plan, you will spend at least two hours. Skip the audio guide, though; I did not find it to be so good.

DDR Museum

This museum focuses on life in East Berlin. It is separated into the various aspects of everyday life: food, clothing, education, fun, music, etc. It provides a good window, as the citizens of East Berlin lived (the Communist side). One thing that I found interesting was that the conformity of life under the communists to escape, it was normal for people to go to nudist beaches.

Hang in Tiergarten

The greenery of Tiergarten in Mitte, a lush park in Berlin, Germany
Berlin's central park is an excellent place to relax, walk, bike and hang out. It is one of the most beautiful parks in all of Europe, in my opinion. There is a war memorial for Russian soldiers, and you can also visit the nearby Reichstag (Germany parliament) and the Brandenburg Gate.

Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie, a famous statue and icon in Berlin, Germany [1945011sehenDies] is the infamous gateway between the former East and West ~~ POS = TRUNC. There is a reconstruction of the checkpoint here, complete with fake soldiers (and many tourists take pictures). The nearby Museum was created in 1963 by Rainer Hildebrandt. It has a lot of pictures, information and videos about people who tried to flee the East. A word of caution, however: the museum is really tiny, it's hard to maneuver to make because of the large crowds. Avoid middle to go day and on weekends.

Take a boat tour

Amazing view of a boat ride on the water in Berlin, Germany
The Spree through Berlin flows, and there are many canals and waterways, where you can take a boat tour. It is very relaxing on a warm day.

depend on "beach"

A great summer activity carries on hanging out "beach". Different areas of the riverbank (especially opposite the central station) have "beach bars" where people lounge in beach chairs, drinking beer and enjoy the sun.

of Dom

Photos of the massive building called The Dom in the city of Berlin
The biggest and most impressive church in Berlin was the cathedral built at the turn of the 20th century as an expression of imperial power. It is in addition to the Museum Island in the middle, and admission is 5 €, and you can go for a nice view over Berlin Mitte climb to the top of the dome.

Topography of Terror

This open-air museum documents the terror and horror of the Nazi regime. The SS and the Reich Security Main Office were located at this point. It also consists of excavated prison cells that have been removed from a remaining section of the Berlin Wall.

****

At the end, I am glad that I came back to Berlin. I did not see what the fuss was about for the first time, but after this visit, I enjoy Berlin more. It's still ugly, but the art, the music, and the food make it be an energetic and happening place. Although I can not live here forever, I would be happy again and visit - over and over again

Note . The city of Berlin has given me a tourist map, me Discounts got all these attractions and free transportation.

Unusual location of the Month: Edinburgh Ghost Tours

Unusual location of the Month: Edinburgh Ghost Tours
Unusual location of the Month: Edinburgh Ghost Tours -

underground edinburgh vaults In honor of Halloween (my favorite holiday), this month is unusual place Edinburgh, Scotland, or, more precisely, haunted Edinburgh , Edinburgh is said to be one of the most haunted cities in the world. When I was there a few years ago, I took part in some of the many ghost tours of the city.

Well, if you believe in ghosts or not, believe these tours take you on an adventure that not only do you get to a part of the history of Edinburgh, but also leaves you just a little "weird." Feeling or if you're like me, scared are. I hate horror movies, because I find it incredible, but how Hitchcock knew a good fright comes from what people not see or know. When I left the cellar tour, I was so Spooked that I wanted from this night to sleep with the light. The only other time I had felt such restlessness after I saw The Blair Witch Project .

One of the most popular ghost tours is through the underground vaults. The underground vaults were built in 1788 and used as a warehouse and workshops for businesses near the Southbridge. However, the bridge was badly built, and water from the surface into the vault would be phased down. The vaults were then abandoned in 1795 and was slums, turning in a red light district with countless brothels and pubs. In addition, poor town this vaulted called home. The rooms were cramped and dark and had poorly placed air and no sunlight, running water or sanitation in circulation. Crime was widespread, but from 1820, was the leaking so intense that even the squatters left.

underground edinburgh vaults

While many companies offer tours of the underground passageways, I went to the city of the dead. Your tour takes you through the ancient vaults, explains their history, describes some of the characters who lived in them, talks about spirits and spoils you with stories of people who have experienced a close encounter of the supernatural kind. The story I remember is the most, a girl and her mother. The little girl felt someone grab her hand. Thinking it was her mother, she grabbed back. But the hand, according to the story, "felt weird" and kept slowly squeezed her hand until it hurt. When the girl said, "You hurt me," the mother said, "I'm on, treasure here." The guide to move the torch to the girl found that she was alone. Who held her hand? As it has to be separated? I dont know. Maybe she has the story. Or all the other stories for that matter. But in the darkness to move through the vault, with the mind in overdrive, creating an atmosphere of unease that you want on a ghost tour. Of course, from the corner of the man in the dark does not help to jump at all.

edinburgh scotland graveyard

But the real "spirit" experience is the tour MacKenzie Poltergeist, which takes you through Greyfriars cemetery. The MacKenzie Poltergeist is the most famous of Edinburgh ghost. George MacKenzie was responsible for the local prison in the 17th century and to pursue loved the Scots Presbyterians (Covenanters) - he was notorious for the joy in which he would send people to the gallows. After he died, he was buried near Covenanter prison in the cemetery. After a local homeless accidentally his coffin opened in late 1998, allegedly his mind the area began frequenting.

edinburgh scotland graveyard

The tours run through the cemetery and around the prison area. There are many stories of people being scratched or attacked, feel sick or discover traces on her body the next day. It could all be psychosomatic, but a ghost tour through a "haunted" cemetery on Halloween? Perfect.

No matter what tour you go or if you believe in ghosts, like all good ghost tours, haunted houses, and Halloween exhibits, these make by playing on the innate fear of the unknown to feel uncomfortable. Are these places really pursuing? Is your mind playing tricks only for you? Did you cut yourself on a branch or MacKenzie claw actually on you? It does not matter. It is good to be a little anxious. These ghost tours are perfect for Halloween -. Or just scare yourself while in Edinburgh

As I had a 10-day London vacation for $ 700

As I had a 10-day London vacation for $ 700
As I had a 10-day London vacation for $ 700 -

Vacationing in London, England with Big Ben on the cheap Back in September, I wrote the ultimate guide to travel hacking. It was a way for me to share tips and advice to travel as cheaply without sacrificing comfort. And as I watched people's reactions and answers questions about this guide, I came upon an idea. It is one thing to say: "Hey, this stuff works," but it's another to actually show that this stuff works. I decided that I hopped, skipped and jumped around the world, I wanted to take what the man as "expensive" places to see and show how they are visited in a household. - Without sacrificing comfort

The first city on my list is London. I came here for a 10-day trip for a travel conference, and it is the perfect place to begin my series. London is known to be one of the most expensive cities in the world to visit. No one goes to London, assuming they will not spend much money.

And that's why London a perfect primarily to do this. Because if you can hack London travel, you can chop travel anywhere.

my own journey with hacking tips, 10 days in London only cost me £ 481.21 or $ 710 USD. This works in about $ USD 70 per day. And that's not just my day to day expenses. These include ALL my flight to London, my hotel, transportation, food, drink and attractions

think about it for a second. I had a 10 -day holiday in London for $ 700 USD, which contain airfare. When was the last time you for so little money went to Europe? If the last time, cost so much money every major international trip was

Note: The readers of my blog know that I for a long time in Europe. However, I also went home to Boston in September on a return flight from London. I use this flight as a basis for this article.

How did I do it?

Before I explain how I did it, I I want to laid out for me to take a second to explain some of the basic rules. I have not London backpack. My goal was, the budget travelers to show in the world - the two-week holiday - that you can do London on the cheap without a backpacker to be. , This saves money is not all dorm rooms, CouchSurfing, and eat noodles

So, to visit London as a budget traveler, I made three rules:

I would not stay in hostels . I wanted to stay in a nice place to prove that a hotel stay can be inexpensive.

I had to eat a couple of nice meals . If you go on vacation, you want to eat good food, so I agreed that I would have at least two really nice meals in London.

I could not say "no" because it was expensive . skip Many backpackers sightseeing because of the cost, but I wanted to do all the normal sightseeing activities regularly do tourists. They do not go on a short holiday to not sightsee right

With these principles in place, I have from London to do than your average, everyday travelers:

flight: I used my American Airlines frequent flyer miles for my flight pay. A return flight from Boston to London costs me 60,000 miles, and a service fee of $ 165.10 in taxes and fees.

The miles I had used "anytime Miles", but American Airlines also offers "OFFPEAK Miles" (out of season really), and you can actually for as little as 40,000 miles round-trip to London fly.

how do I get so many miles?
I'm a frequent flyer, so I can generate a lot of miles per year. I usually fly 40,000-50,000 miles per year, which is quite low compared to most travel writers. But I have written in detail how to get miles for free. I'll get on to the bonus credit, sign up for deals on preferred use distributors, and sign up for each competition, which gives additional miles. All in all, I have collected over 400,000 frequent flier miles with American Airlines by these methods alone

While I have written many blog posts, how to get free miles, here is a brief summary of the best methods .:

Log created for a brand airline credit card: Whether you love Delta or fly United and the Star Alliance, all US airlines have a brand travel credit card that you 25,000-30,000 points are when you sign up and make a purchase. This is a free economy ticket right. Airline credit cards are the best way to make your mileage to kick-start. They often offer huge sign-up bonuses. For a while, American Airlines gave you 75,000 miles when you got her branded credit card. Virgin Atlantic has offered 50,000. United has done 40,000. The quickest and best way to win a lot of free miles is to get one of these credit cards

Look I sign up on special promotions .: for all airline mailing lists. I always watch out for special two-for-one deals mile. Or, if they have an extra to earn miles special card deals. American Airlines gave me to watch on the new shopping toolbar only 1,000 miles for a demo. I once 5,000 miles accession Netflix. Often you get miles for surveys filled in, or they will give up buying miles a 100% bonus. Promotions help, a little at a time, and airlines seem to always be able to offer them. Using actions in the course of a few months great results can provide

application for a non-airline credit card on .: application for a non-airline credit card as a Starwood American Express to map and you can get 25,000 points mark-up. If you transfer 20,000 points to miles, you will get a 5,000-mile bonus. I recommend signing up for this card very well, but for all "points" card as the AMEX travel card or Capital One card will not sign. Then you can make your sign-up bonus to the airline transfer use and redeem points for flights.

For all these methods, take the bonus points to post 6-8 weeks from the time you sign up for a credit card. If you want to sign up for my free newsletter at the bottom of this post - I post always the best mile bonuses on them. Or read range Boarding, all mileage bonuses big and small with a view of

Accommodation .: I was hoping that I went from time to London, my Marriott Starwood points to my account would credit. Marriott is offering a new card with Chase that I got 70,000 points plus a free stay for signing and after the first use. I jumped on this deal, but the points took too long to my account to place. On the plus side, I have 70,000 points and a free night at a Marriott now for future use.

A few months ago, offered Starwood Hotels a 60,000 point bonus. I registered, but forgot the card fast enough to use, and by the time I. Remembered, it was too late for this trip

Since my score did not get credited on time, I used to more American Airlines miles for it. I used 68,000 points plus 25 $ USD for five nights in a four star hotel. I stayed in a hotel near Hyde Park, a well-to-do neighborhood in London.

Now, while you can use airline miles for vacations and hotels that you never heard of a point transformation, as you get so good do with flights. Five nights with hotel points would cost me only 50,000 points. The point here is that for a hotel branded card by yourself, you can set them free nights can get for your next vacation. Or you can use the bonuses of an airline. Either way, it's free hotel rooms do not get so heavy.

for the other four nights I was in London, I have Wimdu, an apartment rental. While I normally would like hostels, I wanted some peace and quiet and a kitchen, while in London. The room costs 150 GBP (238 USD $) for four nights

all these credit cards Regarding :. While a small short-term thing many credit cards in a short time can get through the opening in the long term credit in order will be as long as you pay off all your cards at the end of the month. open even after all these credit cards, I still have a score of about 800.

interest London is ideal for sightseeing, because there is so much free. It makes sightseeing on a budget really simple. The best museums - the British Library, British Museum, National Gallery, Natural History Museum and Museum of London (to name a few) - are all free. Hyde Park? Free. Kensington Gardens? Free. It is simple, without ever spending a penny fill a couple of days sightseeing in London.

Unfortunately, everything is not free. For attractions that were not free, I used the London Pass. With this card, it cost me 54 GBP ($ 86 USD) for two days of sightseeing. It includes more than 32 destinations and offers free public transportation. You can store up to six days to get a passport for (87 GBP). There are hundreds upon hundreds of dollars in savings with this pass. However, I did not have much time nor the desire to see all 32 spots. I was to see able:

Westminster Abbey
Tower of London
St. Pauls Cathedral
Ben Franklin House
Britain at War Museum
Shakespeare Globe Museum
London tombs

Without this pass the same attractions would cost me £ 104.55 have. I saved 50% by the London Pass with, and I did not use it for everything that it offers. For this reason, in so many of my posts about the different towns, I emphasize a city always happen when you plan to do a lot of museums and tours. You can so by saving a lot of money. there is one of the best budget travel tips and is all too often overlooked

Eating .: I did not want to be the typical backpacker and eating kebabs and pasta for every meal. But at the same time, I know locals 100% of the time do not eat, either, and a great way to save money is to cook, what part of the reason why I got a place with a kitchen for my last four nights , I wanted to mix with cooking a few meals food. During my 10 day London I spent 103.80 GBP (165 USD $) on food, the following manner broke:

I spent £ 9.11 on food, such as bread, sandwich meat, vegetables and noodles. That was enough for three dinners and three lunches.

I spent £ 2.20 on bottled water, which I replenished in the course of my journey.

My Hotels and serviced apartment available breakfast, although I did go for a morning McDonald. I just love this hash browns.

The rest was spent on dining out. I have a pizza day went for a dinner for good Thai food out, had great Indian one night, ate typical fish and chips the next, had a couple of Starbucks green tea, and ate tons kebabs. They are everywhere in London. According to my friends, you are a real London if you are on skewers to eat in the restaurant, especially if it is made after one night.

As I said, I did not want to skimp on meals. I ate, as and when I wanted. I look for deals, even though, like any good budget travelers know that good food need not be expensive. In London I found the best way to eat on a budget for the lunch deals was seen. Most restaurants that I came, had offered a 'one sale, get one free "offer for takeaway on the lunch specials and many pizzerias.

Another great way to save money is the taste to obtain card. This restaurant Club card offers 50% off on thousands of restaurants, as well as two-for-one specials. It can really pay off, especially on the beautiful meals that you want to be. You can only live on fish and chips for so long

Transport :. My London Pass public transport for the two days covered it was valid. And as London taxis are notoriously expensive even by London standards, I gave them.

For transport to Heathrow Airport, I took the Heathrow Express to get to town (£ 18.50) and the London Underground to get out (5 GBP). Around the town, I invited my oyster card (metro map) for unrestricted use in Zones 1-3 for seven days at a price of 32.20 GBP. (Everything you really need to see is, especially in the zone 1, but my conference was in Zone 3, so I had to get it out.)

How much would this trip regularly?

I had fallen into the trap that most people do a "normal holiday", the book this London trip would cost me three times as many have.

a flight to London from Boston now runs around $ 650 USD.

Currently, the average price of a decent three or four star rated hotel in central London 70-100 GBP ($ 111-158 USD) per night. For my nine eight ride, that adds up to around $ 1,000 USD, as I would have gone with the cheapest.

I had the cook waived, I would have probably added about 70 GBP (111 $ USD) to eat at the restaurant to know, my eating habits.

If you all that and add my transportation and meals, I would have spent about $ 2,000 USD. By traveling efficiently Hacking and with bonus points, I spent 10 days in London for less than the current price for a flight to London, saving me $ 1,300 USD! think about it. I saved 66% off the cost of a normal vacation, and I did not skimp on anything. I traveled only wise use reward systems and employs daily contentment to my advantage. I was in beautiful places, ate well, and saw all the attractions I wanted. I do not have to sacrifice comfort.

One of the main points that I wanted to convey with this trip was to show people that cheap travel does not mean bad travel. I wanted to take a vacation to London, that my parents or friends - people who are not dead sleep would be taken in 15-bed room to save money - could accept. I wanted to travel cheap without sacrificing comfort.

And I did just that. "Travel hacking" might not be the best expression in the world, but the principles behind it are simple and easy. Travel need not be expensive. Repeat this. Traveling need not be expensive. plan for the cost of the standard price for a flight to London With just a little more time to invest in my trip, I was able a wonderful trip. You do not need to spend thousands on travel. A holiday does not have an arm and a leg, and the next time you are inclined to taste, to think that way, just remember that yes, it possible is to travel cheap, and everyone can do it.

Note : One thing missing from this article is my conference costs. Most people do not visit London for travel conferences, so I add any costs to this conference on this post related.

11 Reasons Why I Love Thailand

11 Reasons Why I Love Thailand
11 Reasons Why I Love Thailand -

I was more than I can count already in Thailand. I have lived in Bangkok twice, and if I stay away for more than a year, I feel as if a part of me is missing. It is 18 months since I was last here, and my excitement percolating during a hot summer Bangkok like sweat.

People often ask me why I have to places I go somewhere, rather than exploring new visits. Well, that's a simple answer: It's because I feel connected to them. I feel like home when I have company. And Thailand is probably the only place outside the United States, where most of all I feel at home.

And why I love Thailand so much? Well, here are 11 reasons why Thailand is one of the best countries in the world to visit (and tips on how you can also visit):

The delicious food
[1945006
When people say that they love Thai food, but not yet been to Thailand, I can not help but think: "You've never really experienced Thai food." Thai food in Thailand is leagues better than anywhere else in the world. There is more variety and more flavors. Her mouth dancing with taste when you eat here. The food has kick it. I always order mai pet , the "not spicy" because of Thai standards means that only one chilli means. Anything more than that, and I look like I'm about to fall over and die. (I have a low tolerance for spicy food.) Can be found everywhere on the streets of Thailand, accounts receivable, the cheapest and best Thai meals you serve. And no matter what time of day it is, there is always something to eat somewhere available.

In addition, there are in the country a lot of tasty international food. Thailand is a very international place thanks to the hordes of tourists and expats all over the country. Some of my favorite sushi restaurants are in Bangkok and find amazing halal and indian food in downtown Sukhumvit. And surprisingly, you are also many Mexican find - Señor Pico is the best Mexican outside of North America

Thailand is a wet dream gourmet

The warm weather [

I love the sun much (much to my mother's dismay and my dermatologist). I think shoveling after snow in Boston for the vast majority of my life, I will be attracted in the sun, because in the tropics, no snow is to shovel. Even if it is in Thailand a monsoon, I love the heat, and the fact that I like it in Thailand is always hot and humid. It's never Weather Jacket and I can always wear a T-shirt and shorts.

(OK, that's not quite right. In January I wear a jacket. It to 20 ° C rather close you come here. Always say the expats from the tourists in Bangkok can because the expats wearing those Sweaters and jackets in January are. I once had a friend visit me, and I refused to turn on the a / C in my apartment. It was too cold for it!)

the friendly locals

Thais are some of the nicest people I've ever met. They are always happy, always smiling, very polite and always helpful. They will help you when you are in trouble and help translate for you if you can not speak Thai. They treat you well, and when I come back at the local shopkeepers whose shops I often greet me with a warm smile and big hug. Thais have amazing memories - once a friend, always a friend. I am always safe in Thailand feel. Thais rarely steal or cause trouble. Thailand is one of the few countries that I feel comfortable leaving my laptop while I go to the bathroom.

It's perfect for travel
Thailand is smack-dab in the middle of everything. It is three hours Hong Kong two hours Singapore four hours Bali, and halfway between Australia and Europe. You can easily get from Thailand to many places that is really appealing for a traveler like me. And you can get cheap to many of these objectives. I am tomorrow for four days to Singapore heading, and it cost me only return trip to Tiger Airways $ 0 USD. Not a bad deal and not a bad way the weekend.

to spend the postcard-perfect tropical islands

I love the beach. I can sit on the sand and a swim go on for hours on end. It's heaven for me. (See above and my love of warm weather.) While Thailand has been developed for years and many of the best beaches are ruined by uncontrolled development, you can find still some untouched, picturesque islands and beaches around the country. I especially love Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Surin Iceland, Ko Adang and Ko Lanta. The best islands to the south near the border with Malaysia. They all look like the image above, and a place like this is simply a paradise for me.

The lush jungle
delicious street food in Bangkok, Thailand
As much as I sit to enjoy on the beach, I love to walk by the jungle, and Thailand, some of the most beautiful and lush ones I have ever seen. here very easily out of the jungle and elephant in Khao Yai National Park, to the famous lake of Khao Sok in the south, to the famous jungle and hill tribe trek near Chiang Mai, you can get to fix your tropical jungle. You may not wild and untamed jungles of some places in Borneo or in the middle of Africa, but they still offer amazing views, dense forests, waterfalls to cool off, and an interesting variety of wildlife.

The international environment
delicious street food in Bangkok, Thailand
Thailand is a country where you can get a local or foreign, as you like. Because of all the tourists and expats who live here, the land is very cosmopolitan and international. There are global food chains, international restaurants and shops, Starbucks, and Hollywood movies. Thailand is a melting pot of people, and you will find people from all over the world. I have friends here from France, Germany, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Israel, made just to name a few.

Thailand comfortable is
Thailand is comfortable. Hungry at 3:30 PM? There is someone to foods for sale. Need to take a bus to Vietnam? This can be easily arranged. Need some strange hour to go shopping? There is to open a shop. Pharmacy at 2:00? Do you have this. Thailand is an easy to live and move in. And in Bangkok, you never have to wait for a taxi.

The beautiful people
delicious street food in Bangkok, Thailand
Let's be real - Thais are pretty good look. There is a reason why so many people come here and marry Thais. You are fucking hot. It's nice to go to a country where everyone is handsome. The women here are simply stunning, with beautiful skin and exotic looks. All have dated my friends Thai girls.

Bangkok
delicious street food in Bangkok, Thailand
I hated Bangkok the first few times I traveled there. It was not until I moved there, that I fell in love with her. Bangkok, it turns out, is an easy city to live. There is much to do, many events, great bars and great food (see above), and it is easy to get around (except during rush hour). I love cities where there is always something to do. No matter what time of day or day of the week, you can always find something to do in Bangkok. How New York, Bangkok is a city that never sleeps.

It's cheap!
Thailand is cheap to visit and live cheaply. Yesterday I spent $ 4 USD for all my food for the day, including some drinks and snacks. Most food from the street vendors costs $ 1. I can for $ 15-20 USD a private room for $ 10 per night or a bungalow just off the beach. An apartment in downtown Bangkok will cost $ 300 per month, and it is still larger than what I need. Thailand simply offers incredible value for your money. A few years back, I told my friend that after one month to the islands bouncing, I had spent about 40,000 baht ($ 1.400 USD). He was shocked! "How the hell could so much money in a month to spend!" He cried. Thailand is a country so cheap, $ 1400 a lot of money is considered. I paid twice as high in New York City in the rent.

When people ask me what my favorite country, I always say Thailand. Although I wonder how you can select a favorite country. Everyone is amazing in its own right. No country is really better than the other, just different. However, Thailand has a special place in my heart. We have a long history together. I will always return to this country. I love it here too much.

to speak a language from the first day

to speak a language from the first day
to speak a language from the first day -

Benny the Irish Polyglot juggling many balls with country flags on them This is a guest post by Benny Lewis of Fluent learn in 3 months.

This new year, many people made a resolution to learn a foreign language. However, experience has told me that if your New Year's resolution to be "speaking Spanish / French / Japanese," you're probably bound for failure.

But fear not! After learning and in many languages to be fluent, though he only speak English until the age of 21, I have developed a few tips that will easily make it your goals with your target language to reach out and start from the first day is called:

have Definite objectives

you me now can stop and beat dispense, "learn" a language to your extremely vague resolution and have a specific goal actually aspire.

Ask an end-goal as

  • conversation [your language of choice] within two months Speaking
  • to end two weeks of 30-second chat in to have language
  • able to .. calls until the end of the month.

What is different here is that you do something solid to aspire (to speak "perfect" instead of a vague final destination) and a very tight schedule it. If you want to speak in a conversational or fluent, then define these concepts in a real way.

, for example, fluency is not the same as bilingual, so it's all is in order, do not have an accent and to make occasional mistakes, though obviously both should be much smaller than from when you started. Conversational could mean that you can take part in one-to-one chat with someone, but have trouble keeping when natives under one speaking another.

Whatever it is, to define your goal, very special and an ambitious time to achieve this goal. Even if you reach only 0% of it, you will have made an impressive amount of progress in a short time! It will give you something to work with concrete and help keep you motivated to learn.

stop learning and start talking

Another important issue people with aspirations, a language is to speak that they waste too much time on academics, drown in grammar and vocabulary study and devote little time to actually language.

language is a means of communication between people, not a list of facts are stored. For this reason, you need exposure to humans (no books), if you want to progress quickly. As the saying goes, "use it or lose it."

One does not work because you are physically in a country, but because you use forced your language skills, no matter what the time. If someone is really immersed and excited about learning, they are always learn the language, regardless of "natural talent", age, workload and many other people excuses tend to fall on to. [ The editorial Note: This is very true. When I lived in Thailand, I just took a lot of Thai, because I had to. It was to be the only way for me to be able to communicate well with the locals. At the end I was in Thai very conversational, and I am probably one of the worst language learners in the world! ]

It's hard at first, but if you wait until you are "ready" You can never speak the language. The best way by far to let go of your doubts and just talk. make mistakes, but learn while doing it, so that you make less next time. The locals will be happy to learn the language and help you get better at it. This process to speak regularly and gain confidence in your abilities is the fastest way to fluency by far.

meet and talk

It is important to remember that the purpose of voice communication, and learning that it requires you to be social. If you are an introvert, try hard from your shell to obtain and meet with the people. There are many ways to do this that with a stranger on foot and as such are not accessible to the less extroverted among us.

It is easier to find speakers of large (and small) languages than you think! Most places in the world, especially large cities, with people from all over the world who filled speak all kinds of languages, happy, you can learn to help from those to be few, and fellow enthusiastic learners at the same level as They. I have to practice to be able regularly each language that I choose in almost any location, the following suggestions with :. French in Bangkok, Italian and German in Amsterdam in Colombia

Some ways to meet other language speakers:

  • Meetup.com: This aim of the website is to help people with similar interests to collect, to get pulled from the Internet, and indeed to share personally meet and discuss those interests. It has many regular meetings based on a huge range of interests, including language-specific meet-ups
  • Couchsurfing.org :. If you read a travel blog, it is quite likely that you have heard of CouchSurfing now. But have you tried it in your own city with before the trip? There are regular meetings where you can meet the natives of many languages, and one of the most incredible unused features of the site is that you are looking for your hometown by language and simply send people meet directly. Of all the social networks participating in the world CouchSurfer are much more likely to meet with you understanding enough open and safe to be open, you with your target language to help
  • Other social networking sites. Try Book [your city name] and [language name] and click events. You can usually find some speech events that way. You can also set an ad on Craigslist or even a dating site used to find language partners. I have to improve speed dating in Amsterdam to my Dutch I was there for the three months
  • offline methods :. , Ask to see in the local library or city hall if it cultural events you could participate in or ask your friends, or go to tourists and trying to be helpful!

What? to speak

If you meet with native speakers for the first time only to know a few dozen words or phrases, you can feel for many months or years intimidated and want your books to retreat, but there are many ways to talk to them to get started! I have many ways found to conversations flow if my level is basic, that they do not always get bored with my indecision, and the use of certain expressions that encourage them to remain in the call without me making responses from a word freak out.

The problem with language is to speak in the early stages of a lot more about the lack of confidence as a lack of vocabulary. Keep on learning the vocabulary (a flashcard app and an active imagination can really help) and grammar, but to get out there and get the little you know now . Before you know it, you'll be sure to speak the language!

Benny Lewis is a professional "language hacker" is but gifted in languages definitely not inherently. He spoke only English until he was 21 years old and managed to spend a whole 6 months in Spain to learn Spanish first without. Nevertheless, he discovered that just getting out there and talking to people, even when its level was easy, and he had to make a lot of mistakes to a rapid improvement resulted in his language skills. He blogs full time on his language hacking "mission" in fluentin3months.com. He recently started a video project how to speak from day one.

Why are so stupid Backpackers in Southeast Asia?

Why are so stupid Backpackers in Southeast Asia? -

Dumb backpacker in Laos love backpackers from Southeast Asia,

We need to talk. I love you. Truly, I do. I now have a backpacker for a long, long time. I love a nature and will probably consider me to come for a long time. But in recent months through Southeast Asia backpacking, I noticed some disturbing behavior that we really need to talk

To be honest

. Why do you act so fucking stupid sometimes

[?

I ask because I am a concerned friend. It seems as if many of you flying to Southeast Asia, you can check your intelligence at the boarding gate and decide that your life in pursuit intoxicated, drunken excitement risk a smart thing to do.

And that concerns me really.

For starters, let's talk about Vang Vieng. Now I can not walk a street in Asia down without wearing a backpacker bumping that damn "I went tubing in Vang Vieng" shirt. And when I see it, I wonder , why on earth you would think in a shallow river, jumping while drunk is a good idea?

Twenty-two people died this year alone. You might like this guy at the end, the just died. Or the man in this video, who pitched his head:

It is also this type. And he. And you.

And those are just the examples I found on the first page of Google!

I mean, seriously, if we were back home, and I said: "Hey, man, let's go stockbesoffen get and jumping in a shallow river Oh, and if something goes wrong, there. everywhere to get no real hospital for help. It'll be fun! "How would you react?

You look at me like I'd been crazy. And rightly so.

This is not a good idea. None of this seems remotely like a good idea. Nothing. There is nothing wrong with getting drunk on some lazy river or celebrated at the bar near a river. Heck, you crack open a Corona me and me to sign up for both of the above. But this? Foolish.

There is also "The Death Slide" called alongside this river something. It was named because of the many people who have died, use, which leads to the question ?! - Why are people stupid enough to keep

The people say that it is a tragedy when something terrible happens in Vang Vieng. No. A tragedy is burns a car accident or a house. What happens in Vang Vieng, is sad, but it's just Darwinism. I have no sympathy for someone to do so, decides and gets hurt. If you play with fire, you're going to burn. And because you're my friend, I do not want to see you burn.

And while we're on this subject, let's talk about fire.

I fire love as much as the next person. There is something primal about it, but I do not like to put myself in situations where I'm burned. Why do you? Throughout Asia, I see backpackers jumping "fire rope." Do you know the rope to play with local fire light gasoline and you have all skip, as we are in the 5th grade and gibberish.

Here a tame version of what happened to some people:

you can be the best jump roper in the world, but the drunken man you might not decide to join. While you are skipping rope, choose a few drunks you join and soon you are on the ground in front of the fire in hopes of not getting burned your face crawl away. I saw get wrapped the rope around his arm recently man. All the skin burned, and he was taken to hospital. I've seen people fall on the rope and burn her face, hair and clothing. I have observed in the gasoline people ride on the rope and land.

Fire + alcohol + random drunks = bad idea.

A second-degree burn is not the memory you want to keep. Finally, from Southeast Asia

, let your ability to discuss, to ride a motorcycle - or lack thereof. Everywhere I go I see people with injuries: bandaged legs, huge exhaust pipe burns on her calves and broken limbs. When I ask what happened, it is usually the same answer. "I've been in a motorcycle accident."

Back at home, you would not drive without a license, so again, why do here? Secure the bicycles have small 150 cc engines and are quite slow. On a beautiful and simple way, you would not have any problems.

But go in Asia is not like riding back home. Here drivers overtake people on tiny roads, they do not see, they stop short, and accelerate them as they are in Nascar. The roads are not in good condition either. They are often windy, steep, take sharp turns and are filled with holes. Plus next to the crazy traffic in Asia, you have to deal with all the other backpackers who decide it's a good idea to have a bike they have no idea to hire, how to drive.

I've seen too many crashes and near misses here in Asia.

Sometimes I wonder, who the hell you are traveling with who can do these crazy things !?

sure I've made a number of stupid things while traveling. Things that I will not mention because my parents to read this site, but I have never done anything stupid enough that it would endanger my life or health.

I love a good adventure, but I also like to be alive. These are not things you would do at home, so they do abroad. Sure, it may seem like a good idea at the time. Most everything is doing when you're drunk. But if you get all those people in Laos at the end like, or second-degree burns, or scars from a bicycle accident, it is suddenly not such a good idea, right?

You're my friend. I like hanging out with you from. I want to keep hanging out with you.

But can we cut the stupid shit? It is incredibly dangerous and makes us all like drunken idiots seem.

Sincerely,

Matt

Visiting a national park like Zion is a good way to save money and experience wonder
While many of us dream of traveling the world (or at least a few months of work in search of adventure take ), it is not always possible, even for those with the best intentions. Many things can get in the way.

I often talk about long-term trips and round-the-world trips, but I know that realistically, not everyone can or wants to enjoy this type of travel. I do not travel the world is hard, but I also know that what I do is not for everyone.

But even if I do not see Cambodia for three months backpacking or walking the Camino de Santiago, there are many ways to get on the road and see the world, so here are eight budget options also travel and explore if you are short of cash and / or with little time:

be a Local Tourist
Some New Yorkers have never seen the Statue of Liberty
How often the touristic sights your own city you visit? Hardly ever, right? I know that New Yorkers who never see the Statue of Liberty and Boston, the Freedom Trail are never gone. I once a Dutch friend on a tour of Amsterdam, because despite there growing up, she had never seen the local attractions, which each year attract millions of visitors to the city.

I am guilty of doing this. It took five years of Jim Thompson House in Bangkok to see, and I have never, despite spending the first 24 years of my life in Boston Bunker Hill was. We have it. Always from tomorrow, because if we live in a city, there's always tomorrow

So make your holiday that morning. If you have little time and money, there is no better way to spend some free time when their own city to wander. to be no matter its size, which, it has a number of wonders just waiting to be explored

. Important: If you are a local tourist, check out of your house and into a hotel, hostel or pension. It is important to get out of a familiar environment, because if you stay home, you can do something to find the house and create excuses for why you can not visit. Moving to a different place can help you give the feeling of adventure, excitement and strangeness.

In addition, you should go to your local tourist information office and obtain a city tourism through. These cards allow you to see a wide range of local attractions for free or reduced price and to your way you can watch your local sites on a budget. They are not only for outsiders!

Travel Regional
The woods in Maine
Travel brings distant and exotic destinations to care. It conjures up images of all the places that we have been dreaming and seen in movies. For this reason, search, few people in their own backyard for adventure - like my Australian friends always tell me before jetting off somewhere "Mate, you have probably seen more of Oz than me!" - But it has just as many places to travel.

I could say the same as my Australian friends. I grew up in Boston, and from there I was able to visit New Hampshire, the woods of Maine, the bed-and-breakfast the Berkshires, or the farms of Vermont. New York was a drive by car four hours from your home. How many times have I done this? Not often enough!

their own area to explore is overlooked an underrated and often aspect of the trip. It will drive the occasional lip service in magazines, but in the United States made it clear to me how much our own countries have to offer us and how often we overlook that for some strange place.

So do not have to fly across an ocean to explore the world. Head to the bookstore to buy a regional leader, and see what it is to see in your neighborhood. Your backyard so keeps many possible destinations, as well as a country half a world away.

go to the National Parks
Grand Canyon National Park
The nature provide a great opportunity to go somewhere on the cheap. Camping, after all, costs very little money. Camping fees in the national parks are as little as $ 15 USD per night in the United States, $ 15-40 CAD in Canada, $ 30-60 AUD in Australia and $ 17-22 NZD in New Zealand. And in many places in Japan and Europe (especially Scandinavia), you can camp for free on public lands. Additionally, you go camping with all your own supplies and property (that is, a tent) equipped, so you do not have to worry about spending a lot more money. Your grocery bill can be anything you spend on food and nothing more.

You must either not love camping to spend time in the national parks. Personally, I hate camping. I'm not the stock-in-a-tent kind of guy; I need toilets, beds and hot water. Fortunately, many parks cabins. During the Grand Canyon hiking, I stayed in a National Park Lodge on the bottom. I had a room in a dormitory, but for a few nights, it was the cheap accommodation I needed.

, it is almost always a park nearby and with nature, to spend a few days is not only good for the wallet, but also good for the soul.

Book a last minute cruise (or book well in advance)
The deck of a cruise ship
Cruises are very expensive as a rule, with a seven-day cruise through the Caribbean worth over $ 0 -700 USD per person for a small interior. But if you are running the ship of the last passenger, you can make a sweet deal.

Cruise lines offer more incredible last minute deals. No captain wants to leave with half the booths empty. If you wait until then, you can find some really amazing deals as cruise lines to find passengers obscure. A quick glance at expedia.com/cruises shows last minute cruise go for about half, at $ 319 USD. Plus cruise companies always throw in some onboard amenities, free upgrades and cash vouchers to sweeten the deal. The site Cruise Sheet often cruises has as low as $ 30 per day!

Conversely, if you book more than a year in advance, cruise lines also offer amazingly low fares for early risers.

Cruises are a form of travel for which I recommend visiting a travel agent if you are part of a large group. You have wonderful working relationships with operators and better packages score than online.

After you book, you keep an eye on prices, because if they fall, often your travel agent or the cruise company to call itself a partial refund or vouchers to get the feed and to use alcohol on the boat.

Think Outside the Box
Paris in Winter
Mexico Forget - go to Guatemala. Next Paris - head to Budapest. Forget Italy - see Greece (it's really cheap!). Ditch Brazil and take on Bolivia held - the list goes on and on. Travel counter to the prevailing trend. Zig when all ZAG. When people go in the summer, go in the spring or winter. Skip the popular destinations and head off the beaten track a little.

Contrarian Travel Save a bundle of money. It's like reverse commuting. are stuck While others in the town in the morning to work heading in traffic, breeze without stress the other way. The same is true for the journey. Flights to Europe in the summer can cost over $ 1000 dollars. In the winter? Half of that. It might not be the ideal time to go or think your favorite destination, but of unusual places to go in the off season and the visit will save a lot of money.

Book a last minute tour
Tour group
are Just like cruises, tours last minute best booked. Tour companies need to fill the seats as cruise companies, because once the journey begins, they still have the same cost. Tour bookings at the last minute in the same way as cruise bookings. My favorite company, Intrepid Travel offers often 15-30% discounts on last minute trips.

Why are so cheap tours last minute? Now, think about how people plan holidays. You get the time off work, you can make your holiday booking buy your flight, and you go. As people book in advance, the prices in advance are higher because these companies understand booking patterns and corresponding price. As departure time comes, know business people are not adapted to rotate and book the day of departure, so they sweeten to increase the price for bookings. So take the time off work, wait until the week before, which is cheap, and then go.

Become a House Sitter
House-sitting can save you lots of money while you travel
Accommodation eat into the cost of a trip big time. You can get a flight, but then guest - even if you can find it cheap - could push the cost of travel in unaffordable territory. One way to that is somewhere to stay for free. While I like CouchSurfing, it's hard to do that for two weeks without annoying your host. A unique way to overcome this is for someone house sit while they are on vacation. You get free accommodation, cooking a kitchen in to, and the chance of a goal to explore in depth. It's a pretty unique way to travel and one that I know many world travelers, use. You can in your own region do this also, to reduce transportation costs on
