boat market in thailand
It is 18.00 in Bangkok, and the whole body, street vendors are busy selling food.

Thais do almost all their grocery shopping on the street. The locals go to full rice, curry, noodles or soup with small pockets. With food so cheap and kitchens so thinly, very few Thais in Bangkok cook their own meals. Pavement chairs are filled with colleagues share meals before they go home. Eating here is a social activity, where hunger, not the time of day, you say, when to eat.

Bangkok is a gastronomic dream, and wander through the streets is heaven. Stalls line the streets, selling everything from snacks to meals sit-down. Areas often specialize in certain products and the time dictated that with the precision of a Swiss watch is stalled in the.

As in Bangkok to eat

thailand's coconut drink and fresh coconuts sold on the streets
for breakfast waking, I strolled down the street. Around me Thais were buying breakfast (usually fruit or soup). Workers bought her lunch, loading up on rice and curry, pasta and soup. The woman next to me was to buy fruit.

I grabbed my fried bananas and went around the city to explore. After a few hours I was hungry again. Thai food is delicious, but not very filling, which is one reason why Thais are always eating. You constantly feed during the day because they eat small meals. Thais traditionally eat very low calorie food, even though the rise of the Western diet has recently led to an increase in obesity. But in most cases, the Thais are still tiny and much healthier than us-we can learn something from them.

Now I was in Chinatown looking for a pre-lunch snack. The bananas were good, but I craved something more. Around me offered sweets, fried fish, Pad Thai, fruit and meat were on a stick-basically everything you can think of selling.

There was a buffet, and I wanted everything to choose.

fried fish, noodles, pad thai and other thai street food, dinner at the market in Bangkok

I decided on some chicken. The smell was strong as the chef there added with spices on the grill. He handed it to me over and as it steamed, I have it in my mouth. It was hot, but good. The chicken had a nice garlic flavor. This BBQ sticks of meat are my favorite Thai Street Food. They make for the best late-night snack. Knowing my appetite, I also took some chopped pineapple on the street and went off to explore more.

fried eggs sold on the street in thailand

noon rolled around, and I sat down at a small stall. Thais were trickling out of their offices and descending for their lunches on these providers. I ordered some curry, western style (mild). Thais love their curry and all the streets, fills the smell of chili in the air. The seats around me with locals filled throughout the day chatting. My Thai was not good enough to understand, so I just enjoyed my meal, the (still) was too spicy for me.

After lunch I continued trekking around. I let myself be guided my nose. I nibbled picked at my pineapple and some fried wontons. When it was ready, I took on a few spring rolls. I find Thai spring rolls delicious-they are easy to be crisp, and sweet chili sauce adds just the right element of spices.

pad thai making street stall in the night market bangkok

Dinner arrived as I made my way back to the city. It was to eat a good day, and I was still stuffed. Dinner would be a small meal. Facing the shops around, I wondered what to eat. I had already eaten so much. I could smell curry and soup, and hear the roast chicken and the cooking of fish. I will never go hungry in this city.

I sat down for some PAT GAO paow down. There is a Chili dish with minced chicken and basil. I ordered it mai pet (not hot) and ate it over a bowl of rice. Also to Thais "not spicy" means a little chili, and every bite I had, I took two sips of water. Despite now lived for a few months in Thailand, I'm still unaccustomed spicy foods. I finished it off, my mouth like a volcano as hot as I thanked the cook.

pad thai bought on the road in thailand

to rest after a long day of eating, it was time on my couch, unbuckle the belt, and watch TV. But not before I got a few snacks for later.

Unusual location of the Month: The Toilet Restaurant

Unusual location of the Month: The Toilet Restaurant
Unusual location of the Month: The Toilet Restaurant -

Modern Toilet Restaurant in Taipei It is located in Taipei, Taiwan, is subject of this restaurant, well, the toilet.

This toilet restaurant, properly called "Modern Toilet", which was opened by a former ice cream vendors who used ice from a toilet bowl-shaped to serve scooper. He had the idea for modern toilet after a Japanese comic watch, which had a similar theme. Customers sit on toilet bowl-shaped chairs, and eating food from plate resembles male urinals, toilet bowls or tubs. They drink from mini toilet bowls and toilet paper is used instead of napkins. Also designed the food itself, how to look at what comes out after you eat a meal. Some of the most popular dishes are the curry dishes. The chocolate ice cream is another popular dish.

The toilet restaurant is popular for its novelty, especially among young people. It is also a popular destination for families. In addition, many of the expats and foreigners are here to see and laugh about this interesting place. The food is really very good. The place even has expanded to some other places in Taiwan.

There are now twelve Toilet restaurants in Taiwan with the "Flag toilet" in Taipei to be. I can imagine some of the jokes that get told here. Word is they will soon appear in other parts of Asia.

The Lake District

The Lake District
The Lake District -

Pretty houses with a green lawn in England's Lake District The Lake District in Cumbria is on the north west coast of England about an hour from the Scottish border. The Lake District is to the north of England, which is in the south of Cornwall, and I can not figure out what I enjoyed more. They are both beautiful.

The lakes are a result of the last ice age. Glacier went from here and cut the U-shaped valleys, which are now filled with water. My friends and I went on a Sunday, and the highways were full of people coming to the south for a relaxing weekend on the lakes. It is easy to see why they all go.

north near Ullswater start, we made our way south to Windermere. The farther we went south, the busier it got. I enjoyed the northern lakes more because of this.

Ullswater is in a rugged area and is surrounded by mountains, hiking trails, and sheep farms. It was very reminiscent of New Zealand and looked much like Milford Sound, but without all the ice. And although Ullswater is the second largest lake in the district, it is one of the quietest.

Pooley Bridge village, situated at the northern end of the lake, is famous for the small stone bridge, the city offers its name. The bridge was nothing special, but the river is shallow enough over and go, despite the cold, in his playing many children had.

The lake that makes up the Lake District in the UK

South Drive, we passed mountain after mountain and farm to farm. There are a lot of sheep in this area, which is another reason this place can imagine of New Zealand.

We drove through the Kirkstone Pass, the stunning views of the entire area, including a couple of lakes. Small streams trickle down, and there are a number of swimming holes. However, if you go through, you can reach the southern part of the district and the more touristed area. Coming out of the Pass houses all began to until the spring, were more cars on the road, and people seemed to be everywhere.

When we pulled in Windermere, we propose traffic and crowds, and I longed for the rest of the northern lakes. We have since not even stop in Windermere, after 20 minutes around by car, we realized we just could not find a parking space. But I was not too bothered. I like to avoid crowds. Interesting to Windermere, but: the home of Beatrix Potter, the Peter Rabbit has written books, is here

Not only is the Lake District amazing, but all is on the environment also .. My friends live in Lancaster, who was as beautiful. It is a densely populated version of the Lake District, but still has the charm. I woke every morning to the point:

Picturesque view of the lake and rolling hills on a sunny day in northern England

Old stone walls blocked off vast numbers of sheep, rolling green hills on forever in all directions, and tiny English stone houses dotted the landscape. This whole area had an "English country" feel that I have yet to see elsewhere, and join me here took back a few centuries. The whole area is so well preserved and so perfect, you often ask yourself if the locals got together and decided to rebuild it as it was in the 1700s for the tourists. Fortunately, this is not the case. People here have claimed just these old homes of their own free will.

For all the time I have my weekend spent in Lancaster in England, and the Lake District felt the most "English". The cabins, the sheep, the hills, and Sunday venison roast of a man caught this contributes:

During observations in England

During observations in England
During observations in England -

The Parliament Building and Big Ben in London, England Note : This post has been one of the first articles I ever wrote and wrote many, many years in front. My feelings in the country have changed, and I was to judge too quickly.

A month spent traveling England, and I certainly learned a lot about the country.

A month in each country, you learn something. Cultures open only really important to you when you spend a long time in one. There is only so much to notice a few days in. For more information about any place learning part of the reason why I slowly traveling

A month in England has taught me that.

the Englishman sit in their assigned seats. When a person a seat is allocated right next to you, they will sit there, even if the rest of the car is empty.

Every night is a night drinking . It is no surprise that the British drink, but what surprised me was the sheer volume they do it in. No matter what day of the week it is, or if it the next day of work, they are drinking. I saw a few scenes on a Tuesday only that happen in America on a weekend. The English love the drinks again to set every night of the week.

is two hours away too far. "Where are you going on?" She asked I would get. "Ohh, that's very far," was the usual response. In a country that can fit a couple of times about the British sense of distance in Texas, a little warped. For me it is just a short drive. But not for the British. I know distance is relative, but what really shocked me was that most non-English to their own country to travel, because "it's too far."

The British railway system is too expensive . You can get tickets if you book well in advance. Otherwise, you'll pay 50 pounds in a train two hours to go. As airlines who on the day you want to go closer, the higher the price. It is ridiculous to be so expensive for a public rail system. I think it is totally ridiculous that it costs more to take me a three-hour bus ride, as she did to Amsterdam to fly. Fortunately, I found some cheap way across England to get and could avoid this system. No wonder so few people like to take the train.

Everyone loves to hate London. Nobody likes London, not even Londoners. Londoners are cold, the city is far too expensive, it is hectic is the list of complaints goes on. But everyone always ends up there to move for a while. The English have a total love / hate relationship with the city. Despite all the disadvantages, they stay there. As everyone (including Londoners) told me ", London:... Shit Wait until you get out of town England is much better because"

Nobody talks in London . Speaking of London, get on the tube. It is so quiet. People do not talk to each other. You just sit and try to avoid eye contact. No one says anything. Not even any excuses for someone encounter. It's scary and a bit anti-social.

The English wear wetsuits in the water. Because cold water surrounds England, the English wet suits walk while wearing. Whether it is a river, lake or the sea, 75% of the Englishman had a wet suit on. When I saw that, I thought to myself, "wimps." In New England, our water is as cold, but unlike the English, we can take it. Well, maybe not me, but all the others. Babies.

treat parks like beaches. There is nothing like a good day at the beach. But if you are English, your Park is your beach. Everyone comes in beach clothes every day to capture the four minutes of sun. They bring footballs, Frisbees and dogs. They Lounge as the Greek Islands. Because remember, one hour drive to the beach is just too far.

The TV shows are terrible. I thought shows in America were poor, but the British take it to new lows with Hollyoaks, Eastenders, and especially a lot less censored version of Big Brother.

England has many Poles. , the entire service industry of England is dominated by Polish immigrants. I was not served by an English person when it was in small cities like Cornwall. Poland come for wages to England, and as the Englishman to wait no desire, tables, Poland dominated the service and other low-wage industries. I saw many similarities between the immigration of Poles in England and Hispanics in the United States. In fact, the debate between many of my English friends, whether this reflects good or bad, the immigration debate that we have in America. Some problems transcend boundaries.

Overall, the landscape was my favorite. London exciting, but overrated. There is a lot to do, but the city really only disclosed even those with deep pockets. The landscape is much more accessible. Prices are reasonable, the people friendly, and the area a lot nicer. I can not decide if I the Lake District or Cornwall liked more, but both are leagues better than London ever.

And if not I like? A place that comes to mind. The city of Birmingham

But England was definitely an interesting place and I look forward to seeing you again

The flip-flops will buy in Chiang Mai night market eventually break, the T-shirts you buy Ibiza fade, but your digital images and photographs, insisted correctly, will stand the test of time. . 1 Plan ahead

If you have the luxury of time, try to plan your photographic excursions. The best time to shoot is in the morning and late afternoon. Between 11:00 and 14:00 the sun is at its zenith, and the resulting light is very white. It washes and colors results in lackluster photos.

Early morning and late afternoon light both have a special, warm light. Working with him. If you have limited time, take a look at the map and try to anticipate which sites are at any time of the day photographed best

Early morning still has another advantage :. In large urban settings, there is generally less extractor during the early morning hours.

If you have a few days, a little enlightenment. Take a short walk through the places that you want to capture. Look at the position of the sun, the shade, and the layout of the surrounding buildings. Make notes on the map and plan your return. A little planning photographic material relating to pay dividends.

are planning to take the best photos possible. Do not say: "I'll fix it in Photoshop." Your goal should be possible on the first try the best photo. Forget your computer and photo editing.

2. Go high, go low

Looking to capture the scene you are trying for an interesting perspective. Try to get it up or down. If possible, kneel down and take your photo closer to the ground. Are there stairs near, or a second floor café or balcony? Use them. The majority of the photographs are taken out of headroom. Boring. There are more ways to see the world as of 5'8 ".

4. Capture faces

Nobody wants to see photos of the backs of heads. "Get the face" was usually an old photo editor drilled into me. a face, combined with your location, telling both a story and adds humanity to a picture. When shooting in an exotic market, take photos of the merchants, not the back of Traveller's heads, like to see it.

5. consider

the way you compose the foreground and background your image says a lot. What's in the foreground? What's in the background? Consider targeted techniques. Do you have a subject in the foreground with the background blurred, or the opposite. Both techniques are a different story.

Image with the foreground blurry and the background in focus Images with the foreground in or out of focus tell a different story

Many people feel uncomfortable, take your camera from the "Auto" mode. Do not be. Experiment. The great thing about digital cameras is the endless (and free) opportunities they offer. Experiment. Rate. Experiment again. This is best done before you on your journey. On the way Do you know your equipment and its capabilities will also improve your travel photos.

Planning is the key. Check out the scene and put some thought into your compositions before and flicked a rabid shutterbug. Photography is not about cameras or expensive gear there is a way to see the world and related this vision to others. Consider these five tips before they look through the viewfinder, and you will improve your vacation photos.

amateur and professional photographers alike agree :. Getting local people to relax for a good photo is one of the most difficult aspects of travel photography - but not impossible

The locals are not Scenery
Locals are not scenery
While by Region travel, where to locals only see in magazines, you have (for example, monks in Southeast Asia or Zulu tribesmen in East Africa), there is a tendency to get excited while unconsciously a "no interaction" up wall. You tiptoe around them in a fragile manner. Whether it is through eye contact or other form of personal recognition, you must engage them. This makes them to live, being inhaled.

While shopping in Cusco, I felt a little tug on my pants. Initially shocked, I looked down only an old lady sitting on the floor, to find arranging flowers, and asking for money. It could have been easy to paint them in the Peruvian market scene, but I crouched down immediately and spent some time down on the floor with her.

The Saturday City: Philadelphia

The Saturday City: Philadelphia
The Saturday City: Philadelphia -

Philadelphia skyline
House to the Constitutional Convention, the World Series-winning Phillies, swing state voters and greasy cheese steaks, Philadelphia is an eclectic, historic and very interesting city. I did it many times, because my family lives there. Family holiday cousin to visit were quite often, when I was younger, so I have to get to know the city. And when I was older, it was a stop on my cross-country tour was in 06

Philadelphia is one of America's oldest and most historic cities. Its central location within the 13 colonies for an ideal place for the early American leaders to best meet to discuss the future of the colonies, the eventual revolt against England, and the founding of the country. However, its history is going back before this. In 1681 Charles II of England granted William Penn a charter for what the Pennsylvania would be colony. Penn's plan was to create a city on the Delaware River to serve as a port and a place for religious tolerance. Penn, the city of Philadelphia called, which is Greek for brotherly love.

A major factor in the growth of Philadelphia in the 1700s was Benjamin Franklin. Franklin helped city services, founded the first hospital improve, promote democracy, went overseas, and promoted science and education - all while power to discover. What a guy! Philadelphia was used as the site for the first Continental Congress before the War of Independence, the Second Continental Congress during the war, and the Constitutional Convention after the war.

During the 19th century, Philadelphia had a wide variety of industries and companies, mainly textiles. Until the 20th century, but floundered through Philadelphia to corruption. Protests and race riots were common in the 1960s and 70s. Drugs and violence plagued the city, and in the 1980s, crack houses were commonplace. In the 190s, the city itself began to clean. The city began service company to attract and promote itself as a tourist destination. Glass and granite skyscrapers were built, and historic areas such as Independence National Historical Park (in Society Hill) have been renovated

My favorite aspect of this city is the story -. You can go anywhere without tripping over it. There is so much to see. And the best way to see it? A walk.

Philadelphia's historic center is situated near Society Hill, an area of the city, which was renovated in recent years. There is no better place to see a walk than to start at the Independence Hall, where the land began.

Philadelphia constitution hall

From there you can cross the road the infamous Liberty Bell to see. You will have to wait a bit, because the line is usually long right.

Philadelphia liberty bell with the crack

then wander around the old historic houses and streets of Society Hill to see.

Philadelphia street in black and white

the old Treasury check out, is right next to Independence Hall.

the old treasury of the United States in Philly

down the street where Ben Franklin to see the city's most famous historical figure, used to call head home. If you want, you can go see where he is buried.

Philadelphia Ben Franklin house

The whole area is filled with lots of green areas and small cobbled streets. If you lose the masses, it is easy to imagine in Colonial America itself, especially with all Reenactor order.

Philadelphia old streets

In summer it is best to go early or during the week, as the masses abundant and the lines long. Philadelphia is very hot in summer, and the last thing you want to do is in the boiling sun.

Wait After a good day in the city, head down to South Street for the street of the famous collection of cafés, tattoo parlors and cheese steak restaurants. Residents are here serious about their cheese steak Addiction (the best are at Pats and Genos), and no trip to Philadelphia is complete without a heart-clogging cholesterol to eat rising cheesesteak.

Seven reasons to visit Thailand

Seven reasons to visit Thailand
Seven reasons to visit Thailand -

Temple in Chiang Mai
The political problems in Thailand, the country has been in the news a lot lately. Because of the difficulties are fleeing tourists visited the country and not come back, despite all the great reasons to visit Thailand. Tourist bookings are way down, reported with some hotels an occupancy rate of only 20%. December is usually one of the busiest months in Thailand because of the holidays. But the backpacker area of Khao San Road was deserted this weekend during a time when it usually surrounded by people. (from 2012 these questions are no longer relevant, but the reasons have to attend not changed. Thailand one of my favorite countries, and you should visit if you can.)

let the News you do not scare. The protests never seep into the daily life of Thailand. Prices are lowered, but if the cost was not enough reason to come here, here are to do seven things in Thailand that you give enough reason to come visit:

Bangkok
Bangkok skyline
the capital of Thailand, Bangkok, is a crazy city that moves at a lightning fast pace. I did not like the city, when I came here, but to live here, I see how beautiful it really is. There is always something going on, the food is great (make sure that you eat the street food), and the parties are amazing. The locals are friendly, and because of all the travelers and expats living here, it is a very international city. They are never in Bangkok boring.

Tropical Beaches
gorgeous blue waters of one of the many beaches in Thailand
Thailand's beaches and islands are some of the best and most beautiful in the world. A picture is worth a thousand words, and this photo shows why you visit Thailand better than any words would I could say. Some of my favorite islands in Thailand are Ko Lipe, Ko Lanta, Ko Samet and Ko Phangan (where you will find the famous Full Moon Party).

Lush Jungles
Jungle in Thailand
Trekking in northern Thailand gives you a magnificent view of the lush tropical jungle, the animals ~~ POS = TRUNC and the hill tribes and an appreciation for the landscape. There is nothing like slushing through a tropical jungle to cultivate your inner explorer. Some of the best trekking can northward near Chiang Rai, to be found in Khao Yai Park, and in Khao Sok, which is famous for its caves and limestone.

Amazing Animals
Nomadic Matt Kepnes playing with a Thai elephant at the Elephant Nature Park
you will see animals throughout the country. From fish in the sea to elephants on the ground, birds in the air, Thailand has a large variety of animals. Most people come here to dive and to see tropical fish, but there are many large animals in the countryside to see, too, especially if you like birds. Exploring the jungle in parks like Khao Yai or by diving in Ko Tao is a great way to see the main types. You can also work on the conservation camp near Chiang Mai.

Delicious Food
yummy fresh Thai Food
Thai cuisine is known throughout the world save from abuse elephants help delicious, and you can make it even more delicious live in Thailand. The best food comes from the street vendors that serve the tastiest, spiciest food in the country. Just find the stalls where locals crowd around the best of the best. Thailand without food would be without the wine as France. I recommend the pork noodle soup high. It is one of the few Thai dishes that nowhere else in the world.

Ancient Ruins
Temple ruins in Korat
The sides of Sukhothai, Lopburi and Ayutthaya are windows in Thailand's historic past, back with ruins century. Visit ruins when Thailand was ruled by the Khmer and Burmese and Thailand when they ruled. These cities dominate the center of Thailand, so they can bounce a perfect way to jump, and jump your way to Chiang Mai and see the rural landscape.

Great Diving
Diving with fish in the dark blue waters
Thailand has some of the best diving in the world. The diving around Phuket, Ko Tao, the Similian Islands and the Surin Islands is known for colorful fish and coral. Thailand is to learn to dive and one of the best places in the world. I find diving near Koh Lanta and in the Similian Islands to be the best, because the reefs are better preserved.

So do not worry about the recent unrest. Thailand has a lot to offer travelers. There are many good reasons to Thailand now and visit tons of things to do here.

A view of Kiribati
What better way to ring in the New Year than to be the first person to do it? This spot in the Pacific is officially seen the first place in the world in the New Year. It's like going into the future! Tourism picked up here in recent years, as the locals tried to capitalize on the interesting fact, but the island remains mostly a pristine backwater. There is not much to do and accommodation is not particularly luxurious, but better way, what to spend the New Year, as on an island in the South Pacific? Be sure to plan this in advance, because some flights go here and limited accommodation does find its difficult places.
